MONITORING AND MULTISENSOR RESEARCH IN MAINE'S INDUSTRIAL FOREST

The sustained management of Maine's forests is essential to the state's economy. The incorporation of advanced remote sensing technologies could play an important role in the ability of Maine's forest industry to compete in the world market. A new generation of satellite sensors is coming on-line in the next few years. The most potentially important sensors to the forest industry have not been extensively researched to determine their appropriate applications and commercial utility.

The objective of the Forest Monitoring & Multisensor Research Project is to define forestry requirements that can be addressed with advanced remote sensing technology and work in conjunction with Maine's forest industry to design a performance specification to meet industry requirements for forest monitoring and management programs.
