Eligibility

The New England Program affiliated with the  Universität Salzburg is open to qualified juniors and seniors in all major fields.  Seniors should consult their departmental advisors to ensure that they will have satisfied all requirements for graduation upon returning to their home institutions.  In unusual circumstances, especially well-qualified sophomores may be considered for acceptance.  To be admitted to the Program, students must normally fulfill the following basic requirements:

    • Completion of the sophomore year at an accredited college or university in the United States or Canada.
    • A minimum of two years of college German with a B average (3.0).
    • Good scholastic standing (minimum cumulative average of 2.5).
    • Approval by the responsible academic officer at the student’s home institution.
The Director will have the ultimate authority to judge whether a student is eligible for the Program.  If deemed necessary, the Director may request a language proficiency test such as the “Zertifikat Deutsch” which is administered by any branch of the   Goethe Institute . Another option is a conditional acceptance pending successful completion of further course work during the summer. The University of Rhode Island's "Deutsche Sommerschule am Atlantik" is especially recommended.
