Bachelor of Arts in Languages with Teaching Certification
Before beginning this course of study, students must contact
the departmental liaison to the College of Education, Gisela
Hoecherl-Alden. After meeting with Professor Hoecherl-Alden,
students must register with the College
of Education and Human Development as teacher candidates. This should be done before
the end of their Sophomore year.
In addition for meeting the French, German or Spanish major
requirements in Modern Languages and Classics, students desiring
certification must complete the following:
- MLC 466:
Teaching Modern Languages or IEI 470: The Teaching
of English as a Second Language
- PSY 100: General Psychology
- EDG 298: Teacher Candidacy Field
Experience
- MLC 467:
Literature in the K-12 Language Curriculum,
IEI 475: Curriculum Development or another appropriate
curriculum course.
- EDB 202: Schools, Students, and Society or EDB 221: Educational
Psychology
- PSY 424: Abnormal Child Psychology or CHF 433: Adolescence
- EDB
204: The Teaching Process
- SED 402: Adapting Instruction for Students
with Disabilities
- EDG 400 : Field Observation
- STT 499: Student Teaching K-12
- Praxis I exam
- Praxis II exam
- Technological Literacy (check sheet must be signed
by Gisela Hoecherl-Alden)
- and in the case of French majors only:
FRE 420: French Phonetics
Students should register with the College
of Education and Human Development as teacher candidates before the end of their
Sophomore year.
