Project Sponsors Purpose of Competition

Over the last decade snowmobiling has grown in its popularity and competitiveness. This increase in demand has led to the need for quieter and more environmentally friendly machines. The design purpose of the competition is to re-engineer an existing snowmobile to make a cleaner and quieter vehicle while maintaining the performance characteristics.

The design specifications were set by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and the challenge of the competition was undertaken by our senior engineering design students.

Results

The University of Maine came in third overall. The group was also awarded with best fuel economy, best value, and endurance run completion, and CSC2004 attendance.
