The propulsion system is a design by Hobie, utilized on a kayak. It is an oscillating hydrofoil design, which allows us to compete in the Non-Propellor Driven class at the ISR race this summer.
Hydrofoils
Last year's Propulsion Team set up the test stand in this photo to design a new connecting link to link the two sets of hydrofoils to a common set of pedals.
The Propulsion Team also built and installed a set of load bearing "hoops" that transmit the thrust from the hydrofoils to the hull, resulting in forward motion of the submarine.
