In 2003 we started to work on a sled based on a 203 4-stroke Arctic Cat. The first year we produced a singularly ugly fairing for the snowmobile. It did not well represent the skills of the team but performed admirably at the competition.
Last year a better looking fairing was produced although the fit and finish were still inferior to commercial or custom snowmobiles. The best result last year was that a quality mold with a reasonable shape was produced by the team.
The team this year will be expected to produce a high quality design for a optimized lay-up and to then execute the design with an eye toward rigidity and appearance of the structure. This is a stiffness limited design and the development of a light weight cowling is important to the overall performance of the snowmobile since weight is an issue.
