| The goal of the Advanced Track Design Team is to improve the performance of the University of Maine's snowmobile through alteration and redesign of the snowmobile's track and drive system. After research of track applications and formulation of a number of design ideas, the team has decided to focus on the implementation of fiber reinforced composites in the construction of the track. With a new track design consisting of a series of rubber core, composite shell links, the team hopes to be able to increase the track efficiency and reduce its overall weight while effecting a number of other improvements on the current track design. |
| The first semester of work for the design team entailed reasearch on track designs in the earlier months, and the development of new track ideas during the later part of the semester. With a new design in mind, the team set out second semester to work through the fabrication process of our new design. The team is currently working on refining the manufacturing process so as to make a larger scale production of the track links a possibility in the future. |
