Pictured above is the final prototype solid model. This is a solid model of the track used on the UM competition Arctic Cat snowmobile (above).  The stock track on the Yamaha Phazer snowmobile(below).  The Yamaha Phazer is the control sled for the 2007-08 SAE Clean Snowmobile competition.

This is a solid model of the three mold sections used to create our prototype.  These molds were constucted of UHMW plastic because of its favorable release characterics for cured composite materials.
This is the solid model of the three molds placed together.  The team is currently trying to implement this configuration into the last stage of the manufacturing process.

The current drive system incorporates the lugs pictured above in conjunction with a gear tooth drive system. This is one current tractive lug design on a commercially produced track.
The new design will incorporate Teflon bearings at each pin connection. Teflon was chosen due to its low coefficient of friction and its ability to perform in low temperatures.
The track and suspension setup of the 2007 UMaine CSC competition snowmobile incorporates open window design (more openings in track for release of debris from slider mechanism) and a smaller width.
