Overview

The controls group will be designing a fly-by-wire autopilot system to control the sub during competition since it can be very difficult for a pilot to not only pedal the sub with a great deal of effort, but also control the sub's heave, roll, and yaw.

Current designs left by last year's team had many issues with waterproofing the electronics, so a great deal of attention is being given to this problem.  The control surfaces are also being revamped, including more efficient bearings and simpler linkages.  In addition, more sensors are being selected and implemented so that the sub will need less input by the pilot to remain stable and headed in the desired direction.
