Tom
founded Maine Design Company, in 1999, to service Midcoast Maine’s
marine industry needs. He has specialized in yacht and commercial craft
design, rigging of large sailing vessels, vessel operations and project
management. Tom also has extensive experience as captain on vessels of
up to 200 tons displacement. Currently, a self motivated, resourceful
Mechanical Engineering student at University of Maine in Orono, he is
senior with over 11 years of work experience in contracting and design.

Proficient with all Microsoft Office Applications, 2D Microstation,
Multisurf and Mathcad. Some experience with AutoCAD, Rhino, Solidworks,
Matlab and Algor.

of key projects are detailed below:
Fitzgerald Marine Architecture, Inc., Camden, ME
Handled design aspects on several powerboats ranging from 60ft – 80ft.
Key responsibilities included interior design, weight studies,
structural design, propulsion calculations and associated drawings.
C. W. Paine Yacht Design, Inc., Camden, ME
Handled design aspects on several powerboats ranging from 40ft – 90ft.
Key responsibilities included interior design, weight studies,
structural design, propulsion calculations and associated drawings.
General Contractor - Family Residence, East Blue Hill, ME
Designed and built a 1400 sq. ft. $250K residence while taking a full
course load of engineering classes. The project was completed on budget
and on time.
General Contractor - Family Residence, Appleton, ME
Designed and built a 2600 sq. ft. $225K residence while taking a full
course load of engineering classes. Personally handled excavation and
site work, framing, roofing, flooring, tiling, trimming and painting.
The project was completed on budget and on time.
Dickes Yacht Design, Martha’s Vineyard, MA
Worked independently from my office in Maine on several complete
designs as well as some partial designs for refits. Acted as the
primary contact for local builders. Provided technical support, met
with clients, helped with cost estimates, scheduling and contract
negotiation. Building budgets ranged from $75K – $2.25 mln.
Nathaniel Wilson Sailmaker, Inc., East Boothbay, ME
Recruited to build $120K rig on Schooner Lynx built by Rockport
Marine. I project managed and coordinated all parties involved in
addition to hands on work. We built and set up standing and
running rigging on this 170ft LOA schooner in five months. The rigging
was set up with assistance from the ship’s crew, Rockport Marine and
Nathaniel Wilson Sailmaker Inc.
Schooners Olad & North Wind, Camden, ME
General Manager & Captain of day sailing schooners. Recruited by
owner during his illness to take over day-to-day operations of this
$1.5 mln family business. Managed a team of 15 seasonal
employees. Oversaw a $220K refit of Schooner Olad. More than
doubled revenue of Schooner North Wind per year to over $70K in a
single season.
Tenants Harbor Boat Yard, Tenants Harbor, ME
Worked primarily as a mechanic and wrote estimates for carpentry and
mechanical work at this small full service yard, servicing yachts and
commercial vessels up to 100 tons.
Tri-Coastal Marine, Richmond, CA
Recruited to help with design of several large sailing vessels when
regular employees were overloaded. I relocated to Richmond, CA for the
duration of the projects.

live in Appleton, Maine in the house he
built. They have one son - Cabot, who is four.
