Guidelines for Principal Investigators

FY08 Project Guidelines

The Maine Water Resources Research Intitute program is preparing its FY08 program.

Project timelines are from March 1, 2008 to February 28, 2009. PIs will be notified as soon as chartfields for their project are available.

If you have any specific questions about your project budget, please contact John Peckenham at 581-3254, or Ruth Hallsworth at 581-3196.

Obiligations and Reporting Requirements

  1. Presentation at the Maine Water Conference (March 2009)
  2. Annual report (due April 30, 2009).
  3. Project expense period will be March 1, 2008 to February 28, 2009.
  4. Acknowledgement of USGS funding in publications (see below for specific language).
  5. Copies of all publications resulting from this funding.

FY07 Project Guidelines

Project timelines are from March 1, 2007 to February 28, 2008. No cost extensions for up to one year are available by request (see below).

Specific questions about the project budgets should be addressed to John Peckenham at 581-3254, or Ruth Hallsworth at 581-3196.

  1. Presentation at the Maine Water Conference (March 2008)
  2. Annual report (due April 30, 2008). See Annual Report Guide (pdf document). Please note that if a no-cost extension is requested a final report will be required by April 30, 2009.
  3. Project expense period will be March 1, 2007 to February 28, 2008.
  4. Acknowledgement of USGS funding in publications (see below for specific language).
  5. Copies of all publications resulting from this funding.

General Guidelines for PIs

Acknowledgements and Disclaimers for Publications

All manuscripts submitted for publication in magazines, journals or trade papers shall carry the following notation: 'The views and conclusions contained in this document are those of the authors and should not be interpreted as necessarily representing the official policies, either expressed or implied, of the U.S. Government.'

Publications issued on the research performed under the WRRI grant program contract must acknowledge the support and collaboration of the Department of the Interior, U.S. Geological Survey and the Senator George J. Mitchell Center for Environmental and Watershed Research at the University of Maine, under Grant No. xxx. Please contact Ruth Hallsworth for the grant number.

A copy of submitting papers must also be sent to the USGS Project Officer. The following disclaimer must go with the manuscript: "This manuscript is submitted for publication with the understanding that the United States Government is authorized to reproduce and distribute reprints for governmental purposes." PIs may either send the submission to the Mitchell Center and we will forward, or they may contact Ruth Hallsworth for the name and address of the Project Officer.

Two copies of publications should also be submitted to the Natural Resources Library (USDOI).

No-Cost Extensions

No-cost extensions are available for FY2006 WRRI projects. The maximum permitted extension is 12-months. If you need to apply for a no-cost extension, download the form below. Once completed, it can be returned to Kim Raymond at 102 Norman Smith Hall or by e-mail to kim.raymond@umit.maine.edu. Even if a no-cost extension is requested, a project progress report is still required for the initial year and a final report for the following year. Any questions should be directed to Kim (581-3244) or Ruth (581-3196).
