This Juried Poster Competition is co-sponsored by the U.S. Geological Survey and the Senator George J. Mitchell Center.

The Call for Abstracts for poster presentations is closed.

Following is information for undergraduate and graduate competition presentations as well as professional poster submissions. High School students should go to the Juried High School Competition page for presentation information.

GUIDELINES FOR POSTER PRESENTATIONS

Posters presentations will address one or more aspects of water quality or quantity issues. These may include chemical, biological, hydrological, and geochemical aspects of surface and ground waters, and their policy and economic implications.

Easels size is 4ft x 3ft (landscape). Posters do not need to be mounted and push pins will be provided.

GUIDELINES FOR JURIED COMPETITION

The juried poster competition includes two judging categories: graduate and undergraduate. Please note that due to space limitations, only two students can attend the conference for each poster submitted.

  • Poster abstract, following the guidelines above, must be received by 2/23/2007.
  • Maximum size: 4ft x 3ft (landscape).
  • Posters do not need to be mounted. Push pins are provided.
  • Posters are judged on the following criteria:
    1. Clarity of scientific concept/hypothesis.
    2. Visual organization of presentation.
    3. Clarity of expression.
    4. Understanding of project and results.
    5. Scientific merit/relevance (graduate only)

An Adobe Acrobat document which provides some useful advice on how to design successful poster presentations is available for download. There is also a booklet available in pdf format from The Oceanography Society that also provides some useful tips on successful poster design.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS
Students submitting posters to the 2007 Maine Water Conference are entitled to a discounted registration fee of $20. Please note that due to space limitations, admission is limited to two students per poster submission. Student registrations must be received by Wednesday, February 28, 2007.
