Philanthropy

...the beating of Alpha Phi!

The original ten women who founded Alpha Phi were united with a common purpose. They felt a need for "a tie which should unite and a circle of friends who could sympathize." Alpha Phi's today share that same need. They face many of the same challenges and some additional ones. The Alpha Phi Foundation was formed to support Alpha Phi's and others in need and to express the philanthropic spirit of love and charity intended by the Founders. Now more than ever, the Foundation needs your support. We are changing women's lives through collegiate programming in health education and leadership development, cardiac research and education, and financial assistance for women of all ages through the Forget-Me-Not Fund, emergency grants, and undergraduate and graduate scholarships. Your gift guarantees the continuation and advancement of these programs and helps Alpha Phi's across North America prepare to reach their goals and dreams. With your support, the Alpha Phi foundation will continue to lend a helping hand to others and to change lives.

Cardiac Care
Since 1946, Alpha Phi has focused on heart disease and cardiac care as a philanthropic priority. Today, research into the diagnosis and treatment of women's heart disease is a special interest of the Alpha Phi Foundation. Gender differences in diagnosing and treating cardiac health problems are becoming widely recognized, and donors can make a difference for thousands of women through gifts to the Alpha Phi Foundation.

Scholarships
The Foundation supports women in all stages of their education. Undergraduate and graduate scholarships are awarded to Alpha Phi collegians and alumnae every year. Nontraditional educational scholarships are also available to Alpha Phi women who need additional course work for certification, career advancement, or to reenter the work force.

Forget-Me-Not Fund
In 1979, the Forget-Me-Not Fund was established to assist Alpha Phi alumnae facing grave health problems, natural disasters, or other financial crises. As long as there is need, the Forget-Me-Not Fund will be an important part of the Foundation.

Alpha Phi Foundation
The Foundation funds educational programming in the areas of alcohol and AIDS awareness, women's health and safety, and other Watch Care programs developed for the Alpha Phi collegiate chapters. The Foundation also funds the educational training sessions at Convention and Leadership Conferences that help officers develop the skills necessary to assume strong leadership roles within their chapters, as well as in the future. Participants in convention and Leadership Conferences learn new insights into building effective teams and improving relationships, which they, in turn, use to enhance their chapters.

The Foundation awards more than $2500,000 each biennium to support:

The Alpha Phi Foundation was founded in 1956.  The Foundation is separate from the fraternity and has its own officers, and its own staff, and its own board of directors.  The Foundation was seen then, and is seen now, as being necessary to plan for the Fraternity of tomorrow.  The Fraternity and the Foundation work hand in hand.

The Mission of the Foundation is to:

The Alpha Phi Foundation supports educational and leadership programs, offers scholarships, assists women in crisis, recognizes outstanding cardiac care and research programs, supports community organizations, and awards outstanding college professors.

In 1957, Alpha Phi became the first women’s fraternity to establish a Foundation. Its original focus was scholarships, fellowships and providing suitable housing.

Today the Foundation provides support for cardiac care and research, scholarships, aid to women in need through the Forget-Me-Not and Emergency Aid Funds, and grants to the Fraternity for leadership training and educational programs.
