Mansfield Morton Packard,
99, from South Paris and Waterville, Maine, on February 14, 2003. B.S. in
electrical engineering and a member of Phi Mu Delta fraternity. He was
employed by New England Telephone and Telegraph from 1925 until his
retirement in 1964. He was an active member of the Kiwanis Club of
Waterville, Woodstock Historical Society, Greenwood Historical Society, and
the Masons. He enjoyed travel, photography, and his class reunions. He is
survived by his wife, three daughters, one step-daughter, four
grandchildren, and one great-grandson.

Clara Peabody Hersum Chapman, 96, from Topsham,
Maine, on January 8, 2003. B.A. in economics and sociology and a member of
Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. She worked as a social worker for the New England
Home for Little Wanderers, was on the Governor’s Advisory Committee on
Education, and the National Citizens’ Council for Better Schools. She was a
member of the Kennebec Alumni Association and in 1969 received the Block “M”
Award for her alumni participation She volunteered with the Girl Scouts,
Literacy Volunteers, and Mid Maine Medical Center. She was a member of the
Waterville Congregational Church. She is survived by two grandchildren
including Karen Stedman ‘02 and her sister Helen Peabody Davis ‘27.
Gertrude Elizabeth Hammond, 97, from Portsmouth,
New Hampshire, on January 22, 2003. B.A. in Spanish. She was a teacher for
many years at Eliot High School, teaching English and history. She was a
member of St. John’s Episcopal Church of Portsmouth, including the Altar
Guild of the church.

Hazel Louise Emerson Hall, 96, from North
Fryeburg, Maine, on February 11, 2003. B.S. in education. She was a teacher
for 40 years in Livermore, Livermore Falls, Jay, and Lewiston. She was a
member of the Methodist church where she played organ and accompanied her
husband who was a church soloist. She and her husband braided more than 100
rugs. She enjoyed playing cards and spent some time in Florida where she
belonged to a shuffleboard club. She was a member of the Maine Teachers
Association and the Mt. Rockomeka Grange. She is survived by two children
including Merwyn Bradford Hall ‘54, seven grandchildren, and 15
great-grandchildren.
