David Philip Achorn, 55, from Chelsea,
Maine, on March 22, 2003. B.S. in civil engineering and a member of
Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He was employed by the Maine Department of
Environmental Protection for 27 years. He enjoyed football, the ocean, and
was an avid boater and belonged to the Wiscasset Yacht Club. He is survived
by his parents and two brothers.
Ralph Edward Good, 51, from Augusta, Maine, on
February 14, 2003. A.S. in resource and business management. He was employed
by F.W. Woolworth, Benoits, Strictly Formal, and Hannaford Brothers in
Augusta. He enjoyed winter sports, bicycling, and gardening. He is survived
by three siblings including Mark ‘66.

Kirk Joseph McCraven, 53, from Kittery, Maine,
died on February 23, 2003 from smoke inhalation as a result of a fire in his
home. B.A. in German. He received his M.A. from Heidelberg University in
Germany. He taught German language and literature at the Hamilton Wenham
High School in Hamilton, Massachusetts, for seven years. He then worked as
an accountant and for the last nine years was a reservation agent at the
Sheraton Harborside Hotel in Portsmouth, Hew Hampshire. He played the cello,
enjoyed classical music, and reading. He is survived by a brother.

James Joseph Biggane, 51, from Stonington and
Bangor, Maine, and Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, on February 23, 2003. B.S.
in music. He taught music in the Bangor public schools before moving to
Florida where he lived for many years. He was employed by the Cafe L’Europe
in Florida before he returned to Maine in 2002. He ran the Bridge Inn
Restaurant and Motel in Deer Isle for several seasons and began selling real
estate. Wherever he lived, his life was centered around music. He had a rich
Irish tenor voice and following high school he was selected as one of 75
students to participate in the All-American Student Chorus which toured
Europe, giving concerts in 13 countries. While at the university he was a
member of the University Singers, the Madrigal Ensemble, the opera theater,
and was a soloist with the Oratorio Society. He also studied music in
Austria. He served as cantor at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bangor and at
the Cathedral of Palm Beach. He sang in community theater productions and
was a soloist at many weddings. He is survived by his former wife Marcia
Piper Biggane ‘88 and sisters Barbara B. True ‘64 and Patricia B. Gilmore
‘66.
Linda Ann Douglass
Clark, 50
from Gorham, Maine, on February 12, 2003. B.S. in agricultural resources.
She was employed by UNUM as a handbook writer at the time of her death, and
had been employed there for 29 years. She was involved with the United Way,
was the leader of the Merrymakers 4H Club of Gorham, served on the board of
directors for the Leaders Association, and served on the Extension Executive
Committee. She was named Extension Volunteer of the Year in 1997 and as 4H
Leader of the Year several years ago. She enjoyed the family camp in
Medford, sewing, beading, and reading. She is survived by her husband of 23
years and three children.
Robert Merrick Donahue, 88, from North
Chelmsford, Massachusetts, on May 7, 2003. A.S. in law enforcement. He was a
retired chief master sergeant with the Air Force and served during World War
II, the Korean War, and Vietnam, retiring in 1966. After his service he was
employed as a University of Maine campus police officer until retirement in
1976. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Bangor, and St. John the
Evangelist Church in Chelmsford, Massachusetts. He and his wife lived in the
Bangor/Brewer area for 41 years. He is survived by his wife, three children
including Ellen D. Fitzsimmons ‘81 and Roberta D. Miller ‘83, and three
grandchildren.

Charles Arthur Greer, 56, from Portland, Maine,
died on April 25, 2003, from cancer. M.Ed. He taught math in the Old Orchard
Beach school system for 23 years and was head of the math department. He is
survived by his parents, six siblings including Judith G. Tenney ‘74, Robert
‘67, James ‘68, and Thomas ‘76.
Paul Thomas “Tom” Nichols, 50, from Brewer,
Maine, on March 27, 2003. B.A. in public management. He was employed for
many years at the Maine Development Corporation and recently worked as a
real estate appraiser for First American Appraisal Services. He enjoyed
hunting, fishing, and playing golf. He is survived by two brothers including
Christopher ‘81.

Richard Henry Ciesluk, 47, from Westminster,
Massachusetts, died on March 20, 2003, from complications with brain cancer.
A.S. in mechanical engineering technology and graduated with distinction in
1978 with a B.S. in mechanical engineering technology. He was employed by
Digital Corporation and Compaq as a mechanical engineer. He was an avid
outdoorsman. He is survived by his wife of 10 years and three daughters.
