ORONO – “Milagros,” a selection of
works by UMaine art department faculty members Constant Albertson, Susan
Camp and Andy Mauery, opened June 1 and will be on exhibit at the
Carnegie Hall Galleries on the Orono campus until Sept. 9.
The theme of “Milagros,” or offerings,
has been broadly interpreted by each of the artists. Much of the work
was created specifically for this exhibit and site. The pieces in the
show intersect conceptually and viscerally utilizing a wide variety of
traditional and non-traditional materials, including horsehair,
ceramics, prints, hand blown glass, gourds and wax.
“I think we share in common a sense of
wonder and awe in contemplating the natural world, and that is a
powerful source of spirituality and sustenance for each of us,”
Albertson explains. “Similarly, we each love the sensuality of our
materials, which in itself is about a spiritual connectedness with the
world.”
Gallery hours are Monday through
Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The exhibit is free and open to the public. A
closing celebration will be held on Sept. 9 from 5-7 p.m. The public is
welcome.
