Bear Vocals was started in the fall of ’03 by Kevin Child. At the time the only contemporary a cappella groups you could be a part of at UMaine required you to be a member of the University of Maine Singers as well. After realizing that there was a tremendous amount of musical talent not being tapped into, Bear Vocals was formed.
Since its formation, many different UMaine students have been a part of making music in Bear Vocals. The group has performed in public and private venues, sharing the stage with many different groups including the Maine Steiners and Renaissance. In recent years, the group has competed in the International Championship for Collegiate A Capella and participated in festivals as far away as Albany, New York.
Currently, Bear Vocals is working on their first CD and planning a tour for next year.
