Woodard & Curran was founded in 1979 by Al Curran and Franklin “Frank” Woodard (UM ’61 ’63). Woodard & Curran is an environmental science, engineering, construction management and operations firm with over 600 employees at offices in Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Georgia, and Missouri and at numerous water and waste water treatment facilities throughout the US. In 2011, the Engineering News Record listed W&C as 84th in the top 200 environmental companies and as 108th in the top 500 design firms in the US. Al Curran earned a BS in Civil Engineering from UMaine in 1971 and an MS degree from Purdue University in 1973. He is a member of the Stillwater Society, Boston Executive Club, College of Engineering Dean’s Advisory Board, Board of Visitors and the Alumni Chapter of Southern Maine. He is a former member of the College of Business Administration’s Advisory Board. In 2009 he was the recipient of the Black Bear Award and in 2001 the recipient of the Edward T. Bryand Distinguished Engineer Award. Mr. Curran was inducted into the Francis Crowe Society in 2001. He also received the Civil Engineering Alumni Achievement Award from Purdue University in 1999. His spouse, Carol Fisher Curran, is a UMaine ’72 graduate and two of their children are alumni Rachelle Curran ’99 and Sally Curran ’02. Their third daughter Nilaya is a graduate of Evergreen State College in Washington State.
