Pete Haynes is retired as President & CEO for Consumers Water Company in Portland, Maine. The company owned eight water utilities in six states including Maine, Ohio, Illinois, New Jersey, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania. In 1998, Philadelphia Suburban Corporation, the parent company of Philadelphia Suburban Water Company, acquired all of Consumer Waters Company assets for $18 million. Mr. Haynes worked for New England Telephone from 1963 to 1991 where he achieved the rank of President & CEO. Prior to 1963 Mr. Haynes was President and CEO of Quality Logistics Management, Inc. Mr. Haynes earned a BS in Engineering Physics from UMaine in 1961 and an MBA from Cornell University in 1963.He is a member of the Stillwater Society, Alumni Chapter of Southern Maine, Board of Visitors, and the Good Neighbor Network. He formerly served on the President’s Task Force on Alumni Engagement, and is a former member of the President’s Development Council and the Physics Advisory Committee. In 2001, Mr. Haynes was inducted into the Francis Crowe Society. His spouse, Judith Bates Haynes, is also a UMaine ‘61 graduate. His son, Jeffrey A. Haynes, is a UMaine ‘86 graduate. Mr. Haynes’ siblings are UMaine alumni Jerry G. Haynes ‘50 and Robert N. Haynes ‘52.
