Peter L. Haynes served as President and CEO of Consumers Water Company from 1992 to 1999, when the Company was merged with Philadelphia Suburban Corporation. From 1985 until 1990 he was President and CEO of NYNEX Enterprises in New York. Prior to 1985, he held various operations, planning, and marketing positions in the Bell System. Mr. Haynes is a member and former Chair of the Board of Governors of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. He has served as President of the Portland Symphony Orchestra, Chair of Maine Medical Center and Chair of MaineHealth. He is presently Chair of the University’s Board of Visitors, and has served on the President’s Alumni Engagement Task Force, the President’s Development Council and the Physics Advisory Committee. In 2001, Peter was inducted into the Francis Crowe Society. His son, Jeffrey A. B. Haynes, is a UMaine ‘86 graduate. Two of Peter’s siblings are UMaine alumni: Jerry G. Haynes ‘50 and Robert N. Haynes ’52, as was their father. Peter is a native of Ellsworth and graduated from UMaine (B.S., Engineering Physics, 1961) and Cornell University (M.B.A., 1963). He lives with his wife Judy (also a UMaine ‘61 graduate) in Yarmouth. They have three married sons and seven grandchildren.
