Chris received his BA in Communications in 1976 from the University of Maine Orono.  He began his banking career in Portland with Maine National Bank in 1977, was with BayBank from 1988 to 1996, and then joined TD Banknorth for seven years.

In May 2003, Chris joined Gorham Savings Bank as the Bank’s twelfth President and CEO.  Gorham Savings Bank, a mutually chartered institution, established in 1868.  The Bank has grown steadily since those early days, and during the past decade has shown significant growth with assets of over $900 million and 10 banking stores in Southern Maine.

In addition to his work at Gorham Savings Bank, Mr. Emmons is actively involved with the Maine Bankers Association as well as several local non-profit organizations.  Currently, Chris serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Maine Medical Center, is on the board of MaineHealth, and is a board member and former Chairman of the Board of the University of Southern Maine Foundation.  Chris has been a long time volunteer with the United Way and this past year stepped down as a member and Chair on their Board of Directors.  Mr. Emmons was selected as a 2007 laureate and inducted into the Maine Business Hall of Fame.

Chris is a member of the University’s ‘M’ Club, the Alumni Chapter of Southern Maine (recipient of the 2007 Outstanding Alumni Award), and was also active in forming the Southern Maine Executive Club of the University of Maine.  Chris, who has two grown children and one grandson, lives in Yarmouth with his wife Marybeth (UMaine ’78) and their daughter Sophia.
