Bill Libby (1966 B.S. Education, 1967 M.Ed.) is commissioner of the Maine state government’s Department of Defense, Veterans & Emergency Management. Bill has been Adjutant General of the Maine Air National Guard since 2004. He began his military career in the ROTC program at UMaine in 1966 and held a variety of active duty command and staff positions in both Vietnam and Germany before joining the Maine Army National Guard in 1975. Prior to his current position, he served as commander of the 240th Engineer Group and Task Force Commander in Guatemala. He is currently a member of the Kennebec Valley Alumni Chapter and ‘M’ Club. In 2010, he received the Alumni Career Award. Bill’s spouse, Cynthia Libby, is a UMaine ’67 & ’96 graduate and their son, Derek Libby, is a UMaine ’94 & ’97 graduate.
