Graduate Programs - M.S. in Accounting
The Master of Science in Accounting program is intended
to provide students with advanced training in accounting and other business
disciplines to begin or enhance careers in the accounting profession.
The University of Maine Business School is accredited by AACSB
International--The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools
of Business. It also satisfies the 150-hour requirement for sitting
for the CPA exam.
The program comprises 31 hours of graduate-level study: 7 required courses and 3 electives. The program will offer electives in business and public administration/not-for-profit/healthcare. It is anticipated that most students will elect the standard business electives. However, the faculty believe that some prospective students will also be strongly interested in pursuing the not-for-profit/health care electives. Recent discussions with partners and other employees from Maine's largest CPA firms have confirmed that these firms perform a significant amount of audit work and consulting for public, not-for-profit, and health care institutions in Maine. The Public Administration/Not-For-Profit/Healthcare electives will help prepare students for careers with CPA firms that audit these entities or for careers with governmental or other not-for-profit entities and health care providers. Students will select their elective courses in consultation with their advisors. Electives in other areas may be taken with the approval of the student's advisor.
