Undergraduate Programs - Minors
Two minors are available for University of Maine students wishing to complement their studies in other disciplines with some exposure to business. At least 50% of the courses must be taken at UMaine. Declare your minor in the Undergraduate Office (DPC 211) of the Maine Business School. Students have a GPA of 2.5 at the University of Maine in order to declare a minor and must earn a 2.0 accumulative GPA or better in the minor’s courses in order for the minor to appear on their transcript.
A minimum grade of C- is required in the following courses: BUA 201, BUA 325, BUA 350 and BUA 370. However, these courses can be repeated to improve the grade.
Minor in Business Administration (24 credits):
- BUA 201 – Principles of Financial Accounting
- BUA 325 – Principles of Management and Organization
- BUA 350 – Business Finance
- BUA 370 – Marketing
- ECO 120 – Principles of Microeconomics
- ECO 121 – Principles of Macroeconomics
- PSY 100 – General Psychology
- BUA elective: One additional business course for which prerequisites have been met. (BUA 202 is required for the MBA program)
(Students interested in pursuing an MBA at the University of Maine should check those requirements on the Graduate Admissions page. The only business-related courses required by the MBS for the MBA are BUA 201, BUA 202, ECO 120 and ECO 121. Other prerequisites for the MBA program include marketing (BUA370), management (BUA 325), finance (BUA350)and statisticsMAT 215 or 232). These courses can be taken as undergraduate courses or as tutorials after graduation.

To become a certified public accountant in the State of Maine, 24 hours of accounting and 150 total hours of higher education are required. Interested students may consider, after completing the accounting minor and fulfilling other prerequisites, applying to the Business School’s MBA program with the accounting concentration.
