Fitness, Intramurals, Sport Clubs, and Outdoor Programs - Group Exercise, Specialty, and Instructional Classes

Free Classes: A selection of general group exercise classes is free. During the first week of each semester (Spring, Summer, Fall) all classes are free.


FitPasses only grant access to Group Exercise classes, not access to the facility. A Full MembershipEarly Bird Pass, or Punch Pass is required for FitPass purchase. FitPasses are non-refundable, but may be transferred.  If transferred, services must be used before the expiration date.

Group Exercise Classes:

Where available, you can click on the class name to see a video clip.  Class times are noted on the schedule.  All classes are 50 minutes unless otherwise noted.  Group Ex classes that are not marked as “FREE” require purchase of Daily Fitness Class Pass or FitPass.  Subject to change without notice.

Aqua Burn Low impact, cardio/toning interval class using plenty of fun pool tools! FREE

Beach Body Bootcamp You can have a “Beach-Body” year round.  This class will target all major muscles groups using a variety of equipment, incorporating intervals of high intensity cardio training with strength training to leave you feeling tough & looking tone. FREE
MON – Cait; THUR – Julian
Butts & Gutts A foolproof way to shape and tone the lower body.  Class uses a variety of fitness equipment to target the core & legs. FREE
TUE – Bri; WED – Nora
Cardio Barbell Blast Tone and strengthen while increasing the heart rate using barbells in this energy packed, body pump inspired class.  Movements targeting the legs, back, chest, shoulders, arms and abs are choreographed to popular music. FREE
THUR – Emily; SAT – Nora
Circuit Training Jump from station to station for a great heart pumping and strength building workout. Many of the exercises in the circuits will be body weight. Rise and Shine and get your day started! FREE
Combat Fitness A functional workout regimen designed to prepare individuals for the rigors of modern combat, or the physical stress of daily life.   The goal of Combat Fitness is to enhance athleticism by building on endurance, power, and agility. FREE

CrossFit Black Bear Get results with constantly varied functional movements at a high intensity. Workouts vary weekly and can be modified for all levels. Class is taught by a certified CrossFit Level 1 Trainer. FREE

Cycle X This class will simulate riding over various types of terrain; hills, flats, intervals and more. A great class for beginner or advanced cyclists.  Participants may call (581-1082, press 1) or stop by the front desk up to 1 hour before class to reserve a bike.

Cycle Core Our traditional Cycle X class followed by 15-20 minutes of core training.

Cycle Express Only have 30 minutes to fit in a quick lunch break workout?  Try this calorie burning ride!
Delirium Burst into this insane workout! Maximum intensity body weight, plyometric and strength intervals will be followed by short bouts of rest.  This intermediate to advanced workout can be the next step you take to reaching your goals.   FREE

Fitness Yoga This class focuses on strength and stability poses along with breathing & relaxation to keep your body limber and mind clear.

Gentle Yoga Learn the movement principles that form the foundation of yoga practice; breathing, relaxation, strength, flexibility, awareness and energy movement throughout the body.

HIIT IT Get more results in less time with a 30 minute High Intensity Interval Training session! Each week will vary with different cardio exercises that include short bursts of high intensity. FREE
Intermediate Fitness Yoga An extension of Fitness Yoga; this class maintains focus on strength and stability poses while introducing more advanced backbends, arm balances and inversions. Knowledge of basic asanas and sun salutations is needed.
Kettlebell Krazy Swing into shape! Engage multiple muscle groups at once—a complete workout in a short amount of time. Class will incorporate intervals of kettlebells with easy to follow conditioning drills. Gentleman this is not your traditional aerobics class.
Kickboxing A perfect blend of cardiovascular training and self defense.  This high energy, low impact class utilizes the basic punches and kicks of boxing, leaving a powerful impression on your body.  FREE

Pilates Exercises emphasizing the deep core will tone and shtrengthen your body, improve your mental and physical well-being, decrease pain, and improve posture.
Power Ball Using stability and BOSU balls and various other equipment you are guaranteed to get a full body workout.  Cardio, strength, and core included. FREE

Power Hour Keep your midweek going with shots of fitness! Includes minute intervals of easy to follow strength and cardio drills. FREE

Step Aerobics Step into a great cardio workout! This class is focused on cardio movements using a step platform.  Great for all levels with options for both high and low impact.  FREE

Stretched Out Match your fitness with flexibility. We will cover the whole body in a class that focuses on relaxing tight muscles through prolonged stretching. This class is a great way to increase your range of motion! FREE

TRX/Kettlebell A perfect blend of TRX suspension training and kettlebells for peak results. Stamina, Strength, Core & more!
Total Body Sculpt Check out this muscle chiseling workout! This class includes various exercises to strengthen every muscle. FREE

Session-Based Fitness Programs:
No refunds can be given after the start of the program.  Registrants who cancel prior to the start of the program receive a refund minus a $25 administrative fee, or the cost of the course, whichever is less.

Spring Walking Group Continues Until May 1:
Physical activity has been consistently shown to be associated with improved physical health, life satisfaction, cognitive functioning and psychological well-being.  This group will encourage people to move more and think about how to add physical activity to their lives through a mix of psychoeducation and moving.
Meets: Thursdays at 1:00 p.m. in the Rec Center lobby.
Spring Session: Feb 6 – May 1
Member & Non-Member: FREE

Big Bears to Little Bears:
During this 12-week challenge, teams meet with a personal trainer twice a week and have unlimited access to group fitness classes.  Groups earn points with weekly attendance, percentage of weight loss, and fitness challenge improvements. Winning team receives a prize package and all participants receive T-shirts. By far the best package deal we have to offer! 3-6 people per group.
Registration Starts: April 21
Registration Deadline: May 15
Summer Session: May 19 – Aug  15, 2014 (No training June 30 – July 4)
Member: $115; Non-Member: $140
BBLB Kick-Off and Informational Meeting: Wednesday, April 23 at 5:30 p.m. If you are thinking about participating this is a great chance to get your questions answered and learn more about the program before you sign up. All registered participants are highly encouraged to attend.


Tae Kwon Do:
“The way of the foot and the fist”.  Learn the classic hand strikes and trademark kicks of traditional Tang Soo Do, Mu Duk Kwan tae kwon do.
Meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the Foster Room.
8-week session:  May 6 – June 26; Member: $65; Non-Member: $80
4-week session:  July 8 – July 31; Member: $32; Non-Member: $40

Tai Chi for Seniors
In collaboration with Gateway Seniors Without Walls, Tai Chi is a great class for those 55+ or anyone interested. Tai Chi has been practiced in China for centuries for health, meditation and as a martial art. Research shows the slow and gentle movements of Tai Chi can lower blood pressure, strengthen the immune system and improve balance, reducing the likelihood of falls by up to 40%.
Meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00-11:00 a.m in the Foster Room.
8-week session:  May 6 – June 26; Member: $40; Non-Member: $60
4-week session:  July 8 – July 31; Member: $20; Non-Member: $30

Ballet Tone:
An introduction to classical ballet training. Traditional combinations as well as floor and bar exercises will emphasize body placement and core engagement for a great musical workout.
Meets Mon./Wed., 6:00-7:00 p.m.

In-Deep! Aqua Class:
This deep water aqua fitness program will have you suspended in the deep end utilizing floating belts and water weights for an awesome workout.  The program is available to members for free.  Non-members can purchase an In-Deep Aqua Pass good for the entire semester.
Meets Tues/Thurs. from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at Wallace Pool.
Summer Session: May 20 – Aug 14
Member: FREE!;  Non-Member: $45

NEW! SUP Bootcamp:Join us on the Stillwater River every week for a wicked awesome Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) lesson and workout!  SUP is the fastest growing water sport in the world and you can be a part of it!  You will learn the basics of getting on and off your board, and proper paddling and maneuvering techniques for 30-40 minutes.  Then we will take you through a series of squats, push-ups, planks, and many other exercises that will guarantee a great workout on the water and off.  All fitness levels welcome, no experience necessary. Boards, paddles and PFD’s are provided.  Wear weather-appropriate, comfortable clothing.
Meets Tues 4:00-5:15 p.m. in steam plant parking lot.

NEW! HoopDance:
HoopDance is a FUN low-impact cardiovascular workout that strengthens core muscles, tones the arms and legs, improves flexibility, balance, and self-image, and reduces stress.  In this beginner’s class you will learn to hoop around the waist, hips, legs, and chest, and perform basic dance moves.  Hoops provided.  Hoopnotica Certified Instructor, Trish Hayes.
Meets Wednesdays 5:00-6:00 p.m.
Session 1:  May 21 – June 25 |  Session 2:  July 9 – August 13

NEW! Try-a-Tri!
Have you always wanted to try a triathlon, but didn’t know where to start? Here’s your chance! Train with a personal trainer twice a week as they prepare you for the sprint-distance Black Bear Triathlon here on campus. You’ll receive a training regimen to keep you motivated and get you in peak physical condition for race day.  You’ll also receive swimming, biking, and running instructions to improve your performance.  Registration for the Triathlon included.  11-week session begins August 4, 2014.  Race Day is Sunday, Sept. 28, 2014 (5k run, 600m swim, 13.5 bike).
Meets Mon/Wed 5:00-6:00 p.m.

Family Fitness Saturdays:
$15 for a family of up to 4 people, and $3 for each additional child.

Hoopin’ for the Whole Family:
Ages 7 yrs+.  Be a child again with your child!  Hoopin’ is a FUN low-impact fitness program suitable for children age 7 and up and their Mom or adult caregiver. You will learn to hoop around the waist, hips, legs, chest and play hoop games in teams of two and large groups.  Hoops are provided for use during class.  Hoopnotica Certified Instructor, Trish Hayes, teaches the class.  May 17, Aug 16: 9:15 – 10:15 a.m.

Family Yoga:
Ages 5 yrs+.  This fun and engaging class is geared toward the child with parent or adult caregiver participation required, but no adult yoga experience is necessary.  Kids learn traditional yoga poses through movement, laughter and silence.  Yoga helps improve confidence and self-esteem, relieve stress and encourage cooperation in children.  Yoga also helps improve body awareness, strength, flexibility and overall health for parents!

Saturday May 17 at 1:00 p.m. There are 15 seats available at each exam.  Visit for exam fees.

American Heart Association CPR/AED and First Aid Certification:
