Programs - Summer Camps - Parent's Guide
Registration Deadlines
Registrations will be accepted up to one week (7 days) prior to the first day of the camp session selected. Cancellations will be accepted up to 5 business days prior to the first day of the selected camp session, minus a $35 processing fee.
Day Camp Hours
Our Recreation Activity Day Camps run 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Early Drop Off (7:30 a.m.) and Late Pick Up (5:30 p.m.) are available for $5 each; you may pay in advance or on an as-needed basis.
Meals
Due to the many food allergies and preferences among children RAD Camp will not be supplying food. Please send your child to camp with an adequate lunch and two healthy snacks (mid morning/afternoon). Lunches will be stored in coolers and snacks will be stored at room temperature. Make sure all food items are labeled with camper’s name.
Medications
If your child is on medications, a completed medical form is required at the time of registration describing the type, dosage and reason for needing it. Please bring the medication in its original container on the first day of camp. It will be stored in a safe location so that our counselors can administer it at the correct time and dosage.
Meet the Camp Director
Lisa Carter, the director of RAD Camp, works full time for the University as the Coordinator for the Maine Bound Adventure Center. Lisa attended summer camps for many years herself, and worked at camps during her college years. She has extensive training and experience in teaching safe outdoor education, has advanced first aid training, and is a certified Wilderness First Responder. You can meet her at the UMaine Summer Camp Information Fair on April 24, which will be held in the UMaine Recreation & Fitness Center (the same facility where our RAD Camps will be based). The Information Fair will be from 4-6pm but you're welcome to come early - families swim free from 3-4pm! No advance registration required.
Qualified Staff
All of our staff have had previous experience working with children. Staff members are age 18 or older and have had background checks by UMaine Public Safety. They have completed an intensive training period and hold Adult/Child/Infant CPR and First Aid certifications. For activities that require specialized skill, such as rock climbing and canoeing, a certified trained counselor will be in charge to ensure the safety of the campers.
