Betsy is based at the Canadian-American Center, on the campus of UMaine in Orono, Maine - bordering Quebec, and at the crossroads of Atlantic Canada and New England.
Betsy’s national outreach and professional development programs address topics related to American and Canadian relations and understanding. Through workshops, presentations, publications, teaching materials, and in-Canada professional development programs, Betsy provides programming to teachers and students that seeks to bridge the gap between uninformed beliefs and a true understanding of Canadian people.
The study of Canada is an important element in educating this and future generations of leaders to enable them to understand and participate in global interdependence. Educating ourselves and our students about Canada builds upon our desire to interact with Canadians as good neighbors and valued friends.
Betsy is the Director of the Atlantic Canada Teachers Institute, and the Office of Canadian Studies Outreach; she is adjunct faculty at UMaine and Plymouth (NH) State University .
