Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Academic Year Fellowships

  • Open on a competitive basis to graduate students with research interest in French Canada
  • Intermediate level of proficiency in French required
  • $14,000 Stipend, plus a tuition waiver
  • Possibility of a semester or a year of research in French-speaking Canada
  • Awards available to US citizens

Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Summer Awards

  • Open on a competitive basis to graduate students wishing to improve or maintain their proficiency in French
  • Candidates must be willing to commit to a 6-week French Immersion program in the US or Canada
  • $2,400 stipend for room and board
  • Tuition waiver
  • Travel expenses defrayed up to $250
  • Awards available to US citizens and permanent residents

Canadian-American Center Fellowships

  • Available to graduate students in all disciplines focusing on Canada or Canadian-American relations
  • $9,010 Stipend, plus a tuition waiver
  • Awards available to citizens of any country

New England-Atlantic Provinces-Québec Fellowships

  • Available to graduate students engaged in cross-border research
  • One fellowship is reserved for a graduate student in History
  • $9,010 Stipend, plus a tuition waiver
  • Awards available to citizens of any country

Alice R. Stewart Graduate Fellowships in Canadian History

  • Available to doctoral candidates engaged in research in Canadian or Canadian-American History
  • $9,500 Stipend, plus a tuition waiver
  • Awards available to citizens of any country
