The Canadian-American Cartography Lab specializes in designing maps and information graphics. Located on the University of Maine campus, they produce a variety of campus maps for specific uses. Larger, long-term projects represent the bulk of the labs work, such as the Historic Atlas of Maine and the Ice Age Trail project. The lab is run by two staff cartographers, Michael Hermann and Matthew Cote, and directed by Stephen Hornsby.

They have produced maps for textbooks, journal articles, television and a variety of other projects. Utilizing both Windows and Apple computers, they specialize in the conversion of GIS data into publication and graphic design programs. Publication quality maps and graphics are designed using Adobe Creative Suite software, specifically Illustrator, Photoshop and In-Design, for use in print or web.
