DAY 1 PREPARATION :
Read introductory articles relating to Day 1 presentations, mailed prior to start of course.

DAY 1 Lectures and Presentations

8:45 Arrive at Canadian Consulate; register; meet participants

9:00-9:15 Introduction to workshop and requirements

9:15-10:00 Lecture: French Language and Heritage, Marc Jacques, Academic and Cultural Affairs Officer for the Canadian Consulate General

10:15-11:00 Lecture: History of Canada, Andrew Holman, Associate Professor of History, Bridgewater State College

11:15-12:00 Lecture: Economics of Canada, Anthony Cicerone, Professor of Economics and Director of Canadian Studies, Bridgewater State College

12:00-12:50 Lunch on own

1:00-4:15 Presentation: Teaching About Native Americans, Claudia Fox Tree, M.Ed., Teacher, and Massachusetts Center for Native Americans Board Member

4:15-4:30 Process, discuss, and review notes.

 

DAY 2 PREPARATION :
Read articles and review a a relevant resource material/book or web site.

DAY 2 Lectures and Presentations

9:00-10:15 Presentation: Geography of Canada
Tom McGrath, Canadian Studies Outreach Coordinator, University of Vermont

10:30-12:00 Presentation: NW Coast Culture
Danielle DiPaola, M.Ed: National Writing Project Teacher Consultant, and creator of the Hudson Museum's NW Coast Classroom Exhibit 'Cedar and Sea'

12:00-12:50 Lunch on own

1:00-1:30 Presentation of resources: Christopher Kirkey, Director, Center for the Study of Canada , Plattsburgh (NY) State University

1:30-4:15 Presentation: Inuit Culture
Rosa Flynn and Gail Pinkham, Massachusetts-based Educational Consultants for Isuma Productions, Igloolik, Nunavut, and co- authors of an interactive e-learning website

4:15-4:30 Process, discuss, and review notes.

  

DAY 3 PREPARATION :
Review several relevant resource materials/books or web sites.

DAY 3 Curriculum Writing

8:45 Arrive at Consulate

9:00-4:00 (Lunch on your own, 12:00-12:50)
Collaborative curriculum writing using the resources from the first two days, the articles, and the experience of the instructor and participants.

4:00-4:15 Process, discuss, and review notes.

4:15 – 4:30 Conclusion, wrap-up.
