2006 National Summer Conference and Academy

Integrating Science and Mathematics Education Research into Teaching

Some poster contributions will be selected for oral presentation.

 

This summer the Center for Science and Mathematics Education Research will be hosting its third biennial conference on integrating science and mathematics education research into teaching.  The conference will begin on Sunday night, June 25th, with a dinner followed by an opening keynote address and continue through noon on Wednesday, June 28th.  Immediately following the conference, a Summer Academy of short courses and workshops will begin, continuing until noon on Friday, June 30th.  

 

The conference program will consist of contributed and invited talks on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday mornings, with ample times for discussion.  In the afternoons on Monday and Tuesday there will be workshops, followed by poster sessions in the evenings.  The following themes will be the foci of the conference:

  1. Recent findings from science and mathematics education research
  2. Using discipline-based education research in middle, secondary, and post-secondary science and mathematics classrooms
  3. Research supported strategies to increase participation and learning in science and mathematics, particularly among students from under-represented groups
  4. Strategies for improving student learning using technology in the teaching of science and mathematics
  5. Building effective partnerships to implement research-guided practices in the classroom

 

Stipends of $450 will be provided for the first 100 in-service teachers who register for and participate in the Conference and Summer Academy.
