Knox- Lincoln Extension Homemakers (KLEHC) believe in life long learning. In 2003, there were seven community Extension Homemakers groups with 198 total members. Twenty-two of these members have belonged to a KLEHC group for 20 or more years. Thirteen for more than 30 years, 6 for more than 40 years, 4 for more than 50 years and three for 60 plus years. One very active member has belonged to her local Extension Homemaker group for 70 years! Knox-Lincoln County Extension Homemaker memberships make up 20 percent of the statewide Extension Homemakers (MEHC) membership.

Thirty-seven educational programs were held and 3,130 volunteer hours were donated in community service to 17 different organizations. A total of $4,187 was donated to worthy causes.

Our county advisory group, with the help of local groups and members at large, raised funds to furnish the conference room kitchen, making this a well-equipped kitchen for groups that use this space.

At the Knox-Lincoln County Extension Aassociation's (KLCEA) annual meeting in November, this kitchen was dedicated to these thoughtful and hardworking women.

Knox Lincoln Extension Homemakers Develop Leadership and Promote Cooperative Extension 's Educational Goals:

• To encourage Life Long Wellness

• To apply proper food handling skills in selecting and preparing safe and wholesome foods

• To be healthy and well-nourished

• To make dietary changes to reduce the risk of chronic disease

• To engage in positive development and growth enhancing relationships

Educational Programs in 2003 included:

• The Food Mood Link

• Organically Grown Foods and The New Labeling Laws that Regulate Them in the Market Place

• Microwave Cooking for One or Two

• Healthy Eating after 50 Years of Age

• These Old Bones:  Understanding and Preventing Osteoporosis

• Cooking for a Healthy Heart

• Adult and Family Relationships

• Healthy Kids

• What's New in Knitting

• Quilting
