Reading Recovery
Teacher Training is year-long and takes place at teacher training sites in
Belfast, Benton, Caribou, Central Maine, Enfield, Hancock County, Machias,
Midcoast, Old Town, Oxford Hills, South Portland, and Westbrook. Teachers in-training
earn six graduate credits which may be applied to a University of Maine Master's
program with the permission of an advisor. The training begins with a summer
workshop to prepare teachers to administer the Observation Survey of Early
Literacy Behaviors. Classes meet every week for the fall semester and every
other week during the spring semester. A key feature of Reading Recovery Teacher
Training classes is that participants bring their students and teach them behind
a one-way-mirror while the other participants observe and are guided in a
discussion of Reading Recovery practices by the Teacher Leader.
