Maine Landowners Partner for Sustainable Forestry Research

Since 1975, the University of Maine’s Cooperative Forestry Research Unit (CFRU) has conducted applied scientific research in order to provide Maine’s policy makers and forest landowners with the information necessary to ensure both sustainable forest management practices and effective public policy. Over the past 30 years, the CFRU has shaped the evolution of forest practices from resource extraction to more enlightened forest management. At the same time, during periods of political controversy the CFRU has proven invaluable in helping Maine policy makers and the general public understand the implications of a broad range of policy options.
