At the University of Maine, innovation is not just what we do, it’s who we are — all of us, from the engineers to the English majors and everyone in between.
As the flagship campus of the University of Maine system and the state’s Land-Grant and Sea-Grant institution, it’s our mission to lead, to create, to build and to move the state — and, in some cases, the world — forward. It’s a mission we take seriously, and it shows.
On campus, our students and researchers develop composite materials that make the nation’s bridges safer, processes that make paper-making more environmentally friendly, robots that make surgery possible from afar. They create artwork that pushes the boundaries of technology and literature that pushes the boundaries of the imagination.
Maine has long been known for its independent, entrepreneurial spirit, and our students and alumni are no exception. On their own and with the help of the Foster Center for Student Innovation, they are encouraged to start businesses that will provide the next generation of UMaine graduates with inspiration, jobs and success.
