Valedictorian
Adrienne Sturgeon, Bangor, Maine
Adrienne Sturgeon majored in elementary
education, with concentrations in history and social studies, and a
minor in sociology. She completed her coursework in December and moved
to Cheyenne, Wyo., where her husband is stationed at F.E. Warren Air
Force Base. Ms. Sturgeon is a member of Kappa Delta Pi honor society and
the recipient of the Geddes Simpson and Sophomore book awards. Last
year, she also received an ETS Recognition of Excellence Award for
outstanding performance on the Praxis II for teacher candidates. Ms.
Sturgeon did her student teaching at McGraw School, Hampden, Maine, and
classroom observation at schools in Hampden, Brewer, Bangor and Old
Town. For two years, she was a substitute teacher in the Hampden School
District. Her community service included volunteering at the Maine
Discovery Museum in Bangor, Maine, and in Disability Support Services,
part of UMaine's College Success Programs. Since moving to Wyoming, she
has been volunteering at the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens. Ms. Sturgeon and
her husband will be moving to Germany, where she hopes to teach first
grade in a Department of Defense school.
