Requirements for the M.A. Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders, University of Maine  (Program of Study)

The following curriculum constitutes the requirements of the M.A. degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders. This program is designed to provide graduate students with the academic, clinical, and research education consistent with the 2005 ASHA/CAA Standards for Clinical Certification in Speech-Language Pathology. The curriculum consists of a core 38 hours, with an additional 6-hours in either a thesis option or a non-thesis option.

In addition to the 38 s.c.h. core curriculum, the student must choose either the 6 s.c.h. Thesis Option or the 6 s.c.h. Non-Thesis Option.

Total Semester Credit Hours in M.A. Program - 47

Thesis Option (6) In choosing this option, the student registers for CSD 699 Graduate Thesis
and, with the assistance of a faculty advisor, conducts an approved research project that is orally defended.

Non-Thesis Option (6) In choosing this option, the student completes 6 elective s.c.h. in related coursework at the graduate level. These elective courses can be within CSD or in related disciplines. Undergraduate CSD courses required as background coursework do not apply as electives. All non-thesis electives must be approved by the student's academic advisory committee. Additionally, each Non-Thesis student must successfully complete a final oral examination.
