Testing
Personality and ability tests are administered as needed, often in conjunction with individual therapy. Test results are intended to provide both the client and clinician information, additional to that which is gained through the regular therapeutic contact.

Career related assessment is also available. Instruments used in career testing assist with interest identification, values' clarification, and personality preferences.

Consultation
The Counseling Center offers consultation regarding a broad array of organizational, management, and personal issues to different campus offices, organizations, and groups. In addition, it may be helpful for students, faculty, staff, and administration to consult with Counseling Center staff about a student for whom there is some concern. Such case consultations can be made either by phone or in person.

Prevention and Education
The Counseling Center offers a wide variety of prevention and education programming as part of our mission to positively influence the greater campus community.   We are eager to meet the needs of the university community and, upon request, will make every effort to provide prevention and education programming for particular organizations or groups of individuals.

  • Requests for programs should be made at least 3 weeks in advance by calling 581-1392.  Requests should be directed to the Counseling Center's Prevention and Education Coordinator.  Given sufficient time and staff availability, the Counseling Center will happily meet the request.

Emergency Services
The Counseling Center provides crisis intervention for individuals, as well as in situations that affect the larger campus community. Emergency contact during regular office hours can be made either by phone or in-person by coming into the Counseling Center. Staff provide on-call telephone coverage after hours and on weekends during the academic year when classes are in session.

Psychiatric Services
In addition to the psychological services available, psychiatric consultation is available for individuals who may benefit from medication as an adjunct to psychotherapy. These services are available on a limited basis and involve a fee. When psychiatric services are used, the psychiatric consultant and Counseling Center staff work in tandem in treating and monitoring an individual's progress.

Couples and Family Counseling
Couples/family counseling is available on a limited basis for students when their issues seem related to their primary relationships. In this approach to treatment, the couple or family meet with a clinician who assists them in identifying problem areas and in developing more effective ways of communicating and interacting.

For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 581-1392.
