I am originally from the upper Peninsula of Michigan, and
I moved to Maine primarily because of my love of wilderness and coastlines. I love to
kayak (whitewater and ocean), cross-country ski, and snowboard. I run because it is good
for me. My interest in psychology developed out of intense desire to help others, to work
on my own personal growth, and to understand as much as I could about life. I have become
particularly interested in harnessing the energy of groups to help people learn about
themselves and reduce their distress. I am actively involved in extensive ongoing training
in Systems-Centered Therapy in Boston and Philadelphia and am excited about the
effectiveness of this work. After finishing my B.A. at Western Michigan University, I
worked as a high school teacher and counselor for five and a half years, during which time
I received a Master's Degree in Counseling at Northern Michigan University. I received my
Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Penn State University and have been in Maine since
1989.
