The University of Maine Department of Resource Economics and Policy (REP) received funding in 2002 from the US Department of Agriculture to develop international curricula that would better position its graduates to enter the global economy. The goal of the two-year project is to develop international components for existing courses, new international courses, a departmental concentration in International Environmental and Agribusiness Management, and cross-border study programs with partnering Canadian universities.

Partners in the project are The University of Maine, The University of Florida, Eastern Maine Development Corporation, and Maine International Trade Center. Professor George Criner, Univerisity of Maine, is project director. Co-project directors are Timothy Dalton and Nina Lilja, UMaine; Gary Fairchild and Tim Taylor, University of Florida; and John Holden, Eastern Maine Development Corporation.

Collaborating Canadian universities are Laval University, University of New Brunswick (Fredericton and Saint John), Nova Scotia Agricultural College, Dalhousie University, and McGill University.
