Study Aides  |  A Word from the DoAA

Study AidesStudy Aides

Delta Tau Delta believes that in order for its members to succeed it must provide an environment in which learning and growth are encouraged.  To do this, the chapter has set up several study aides to help its members strive at the University of Maine.

Our Study Aides:

Academic Acknowledgment:

  • The first meeting of every semester the Director of Academic Affairs will be responsible to acknowledge achievements made by brothers throughout the previous semester.

    • These acknowledgements may include but are not limited to: most improved GPA, Highest GPA, most improved Study Group GPA, Highest Study Group GPA, etc.

Attendance Jar:

  • This will be a program worked around the honor system.  Every time a brother skips a class they must drop a quarter into the jar or mark an IOU next to their name, the value of which will be added to their monthly dues.  The jar will be passed around every meeting.  At the end of the semester, the amount of money in the jar will be used for a scholarship.

Delta Tau Delta Library:

  • Brothers who donate any books to the Delta Tau Delta library will have their name, roll number, and class written on the inside cover or wherever is most convenient in the book.

Grade Monitoring Sheet:

  • An excel sheet that can loosely monitor every brother’s grades in each course as they come in throughout the semester.

  • The purpose of this sheet is to give the Director of Academic Affairs an idea of where each brother stands throughout the year instead of finding out at the end of the year when it is too late to change anything.

  • If the monitoring sheet is ill-equipped to keep progress of a course a brother is taking, then the Director of Academic Affairs shall either alter the sheet to more adequately keep track of grades or make a note that a course’s grades can not be tracked for whatever reason is given.

Scholarships:

  • Scholarships will be determined by the alumni that wish to make donations.  For every $300 donated by alumni, that money will be used as a scholarship in that alumni's name.  This will be done with collaboration between the alumni relations chairman and the Director of Academic Affairs.

  • The Director of Academic Affairs will also be responsible for looking for possible scholarships that the brothers could be eligible for upon request.  This includes Delta Tau Delta national scholarships, as well as local school scholarships.

  •  There will also be an attendance/GPA scholarship which is created from the Attendance Jar.  If a brother attends all of his classes in a given semester, he will receive this scholarship.  If there are multiple brothers that do this, the tie breaker will be the person with the highest GPA that semester.  If the GPAs are the same, the scholarship will be split accordingly, and given to the recipients.

Test Bank:

  • The Director of Academic Affairs will be in charge of holding a test bank that has been complied by the brotherhood.  He will also be in charge of lending tests out to brothers for photocopying.  If they do not wish to photocopy the test, the Director of Academic Affairs will schedule an appointment with them so they can study off the test in his presence.

  • The Director of Academic Affairs shall continually update the digital test bank throughout the semester by scanning any hard copy of a test in the test bank and making those digital copies open to every brother to use freely.
