There are several resources available at the University of Maine for aspiring entrepreneurs.

Courses
Through the Entrepreneurship and Technology Commercialization courses offered by the Maine Business School, and the Technical Entrepreneurship course offered by the College of Engineering, students gain insight into entrepreneurship, acquiring skills to turn their ideas into successful business endeavors. Students are introduced to basic finance and management, product development and commercialization, as well as legal issues and marketing. These courses also help prepare students interested in careers in banking, consulting, and other fields that serve entrepreneurs.

Lunch and Learn Series
The Target Technology Incubator offers the Lunch and Learn Series, seminars on successful business practices and technology commercialization. These workshops are open to students, faculty, and the general public. For the schedule of seminars and registration information, click here.

Innovation Center
The state bond referendum passed by the state's voters in June 2003 provided $1.5 million for the creation of a new Innovation Center that will help student entrepreneurs develop ideas, explore creating a company, and gain access to expert resources available in engineering, business, marketing, and manufacturing on campus. Students will be able to take courses, attend workshops, get assistance with business planning, and some will be able to get office space for starting their business. This program is a vital link in the state's creative economy and research and development strategy-the opportunity for University graduates to develop the skills and knowledge needed to translate research and knowledge into businesses that will help grow Maine's economy.

Until the Innovation Center is completed, scheduled for January 2006, students and faculty can obtain some of the services that will be available in the Innovation Center at the Target Technology Incubator in Orono. Contact Deb Neuman of the Target Technology Incubator for more details.
