How the Meal Plan Works

The Black Bear meal plan consists of meals and dining funds.  There are six meal periods and only one meal can be used during each meal period.

Each resident plan

  • has three guest meals per semester
  • is for your use and is non-transferable
  • swipe counts as one meal

Dining funds can be used

  • to supplement the meal plan
  • for groceries at convenience markets
  • for snacks
  • for beverages
  • at "all you care to eat" facilities at MaineCard rate

Meals and dining funds

  • carry over from the fall semester to spring semester
  • may be used during academic breaks
  • expire at the end of the spring semester

MaineCard ID

  • needs to be carried with you at all times
  • is needed to use your meal plan or dining funds
  • will be checked by cashier at check out

If your MaineCard ID

  • does not match holder, additional ID will be required
    • this is for your protection to avoid misuse or theft
  • is lost or stolen, report it immediately to MaineCard Office in the Student Service Center

Black Bear Dining recognizes commuter students as an important part of our campus community.  We offer Community Meal Plans for those off-campus students who wish to dine on campus. This can be a welcome change from preparing your own meals or a convenient option when you are on campus during mealtimes.
