Organizational Structure
2001-’02 UMaine Diversity Efforts

 University/Community Diversity Committee

The University/Community Diversity Committee’s purpose is to integrate the university’s diversity efforts among the members of the campus and surrounding community.

The Committee will be comprised of campus and community members representing protected groups, and of a network of campus and community leaders with responsibility for, or an interest in broad diversity issues, as well as those specific to the University.  To fulfill its mission, the Committee will solicit feedback, and provide input into, and broad oversight of the University’s diversity efforts.

Diversity Planning and Implementation Group

The Diversity Planning and Implementation Group’s purpose is to implement current and future Diversity Action Plans and efforts and to monitor progress on action items during the year.

The Group will be comprised of the current holders of the administrative positions named in the Diversity Action Plan.  To fulfill its mission, the Group will develop, execute, and evaluate specific plans for achieving the University’s long and short-term diversity efforts.

Commission on the Status of Racial and Ethnic Minorities

The Commission on the Status of Racial and Ethnic Minorities is an advisory group to the Executive Vice President and Provost.  Its purpose is to serve as an advocacy group for racial and ethnic minorities at the University of Maine.  The Commission will consider the need to develop new programs and strengthen existing ones in such areas as student, faculty and staff recruitment and retention, curricular and co-curricular programs, and public service/community outreach.  The commission will serve in a proactive role to assess, analyze and define expectations for these programs.

In fulfilling its mission, the Commission will, in each of the above-listed areas:  review established policies and procedures, and collect and assess relevant data in order to recommend initiatives of positive and substantive change for racial and ethnic minorities at the University.  In doing so, the Commission will foster, within the University and in the surrounding communities, a network of resources and mentors, in order to garner resources to advance and publicize its work to the State of Maine.
