My research interests involve geoarchaeology and surficial geology. Past areas of research have included surficial mapping of Penobscot and Cobscook Bays using geopysical techniques. I am currently investigating the Holocene development of the Penobscot River with attention to how development of the river has affected aboriginal use of the region and the geoarchaeological record seen today.

I have been associated with the School of Earth and Climate Sciences since 1984. My area of responsibility is the introductory geology and environmental geology laboratory sections. Most recently, Dr. Joseph Chernosky, Dr. Dan Lux and I have received a University grant to develop a laboratory manual for use in the introductory geology classes. This manual is designed to compliment the lectures given in the introductory classes, and to use local or regional examples when ever possible.
