I am a Professor in the School of Earth and Climate Sciences at the University of Maine.
My current research activities include:

• the influence of ground-water flow and solute transport in peatland systems (Maine and Minnesota),
• simulating peat accumulation in peatland systems,
• watershed modeling and stream-groundwater interaction
• and applying borehole geophysics to characterize bedrock aquifer properties.

My research usually involves applying computer models to better understanding field observation and test the plausibility of ideas. I have used ground-water software developed by the U.S. Geologic Survey (Modflow and Phreeqc) to simulate ground-water processes and use the computer language ‘Python’ to manipulate data. I am currently exploring the utility of ‘FiPy’, a general python-based toolkit capable of modeling a wide variety of processes, for simulating hydrogeologic processes.
