Laptop Specifications for Teacher Preparation Students

Overview
The College of Education and Human development has long been a proponent and key supporter of the use of instructional technology to advance teaching and learning. This project will provide COEHD undergraduates with a complete, education-focused package that will support both the professional goals of the College and the individual needs of students.

COEHD package
The package will consist of an Apple MacBook Intel Core Duo with increased memory and educational software included. The Computer Connection will create and distribute this package to COEHD students.

Hardware
Apple MacBook Intel Core2 Duo, 2.16GHz processor, 1GB RAM, 120GB hard drive, 8x Super Drive, Integrated Graphics, Gigabit Ethernet, Airport Extreme, Bluetooth, 2 USB 2.0, 1 FireWire 400, 13.3" XGA Display, MagSafe Power Adapter. Three-year Applecare® maintenance plan included.

Apple software
Mac OS 10.4 operating system including, Safari browser, Mail and iChat AV; iLife ‘06 suite includes: iPhoto, iMovie HD, iDVD, iWeb and GarageBand.

COEHD software

Inspiration 8.0 - A tool to help students design and develop concept maps that will aid in strengthening critical thinking, comprehension and writing skills across the curriculum. ($29)
Noteshare - A powerful desktop application for creating, publishing and sharing rich media and multi-page notebooks. Users can instantly share their notebooks with other Noteshare users for presenting, viewing and editing information. ($89)
Student Select Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac - A suite of utility programs including Word (word processing), Excel (spreadsheet), PowerPoint (presentation) and Entourage (E-mail / calendar). ($99)
First Class – An e-mail application used extensively at the University of Maine (no additional charge).
