Our
first institute will feature a one-day workshop for K-12 teachers,
librarians, and administrators on "Using Nonfiction in the Classroom"
with award-winning nonfiction author Penny Colman.
Penny Colman is the author
of many award-winning nonfiction books for all ages, including
Corpses, Coffins, and Crypts: A History of Burial; Girls: A History of
Growing Up Female in America; and Rosie the Riveter: Women
Working on the Home Front in WWII, which won the Orbis Pictus Honor
Award for Outstanding Nonfiction.
Penny Colman has expertise
in women’s history and has immersed herself in telling the stories of
women in her signature page-turning style. A popular speaker at schools
and conferences, Colman is a distinguished lecturer at Queens College,
the City University of New York, and is a member of the American Society
