Reading Recovery (RR) in Maine

Teacher Training and Continued Professional Development

  • Reading Recovery teacher training follows an apprenticeship model which combines theory and practice as teachers actively work with four students during the day while taking a two-semester graduate level course.
  • Each teacher is involved in designing individual literacy lessons for their students, daily assessment, collecting and analyzing data under the guidance of a Teacher Leader.
  • Ongoing coaching sessions with the Teacher Leader provide further assistance to the new teacher in teaching for accelerated learning and processing of text.
  • Trained teachers attend ongoing professional development sessions as well as receive continual coaching from peers and teacher leaders.
  • Training class locations around the state alternate each year.
