Maine Writing Project

Sharing our Craft

Writing Project fellows provide a variety of professional development and student writing activities in their schools and communities. In addition to the Summer Institute, the Maine Writing Project sponsors a variety of professional development events, as well as opportunities for children and adolescents. For example:

  • Statewide fall conference
  • Spring workshops
  • Advanced Institutes Adolescent Literacy and other timely topics
  • Young Authors day camps held at three locations in Maine.

The National Writing Project is based on a teachers-teaching teachers model that recognizes the expertise of successful classroom teachers not only as the best teachers of students, but also of their colleagues. Participants improve their own skills through specialized instruction and interaction with other leading teachers during a summer institute and create a presentation in an area of their expertise.
